Hammer’s bills are designed to shut you out of the democratic process
Sen. Kim Hammer is running for Arkansas Secretary of State, and if you think he wants to serve the people, think again. Hammer just introduced a disastrous package of anti-democracy bills (SB207-SB212) designed to crush your right to bring citizen-led initiatives to the ballot.
These bills would intimidate voters, block signatures, drown canvassers in red tape, and even create an “election police” force under the Secretary of State’s office — the very office he wants to control.
It is a transparent power grab.
The same extremists who fought to keep abortion off the ballot are now weaponizing bureaucracy to make future citizen-led efforts nearly impossible, friends.
Here’s what these anti-democracy bills would do:
- 🛑 Intimidate Voters – Every person signing a petition would have to be warned about “petition fraud” as if signing your name is a crime. (SB207)
- 🛑 Create Ridiculous New Hurdles – You’d have to show photo ID before signing a petition—something never before required in Arkansas history. (SB208)
- 🛑 Let Politicians Toss Out Signatures – If one canvasser is accused of wrongdoing, the Secretary of State could throw out every signature they collected. (SB209)
- 🛑 Force Unnecessary and Confusing Rules on Voters – Signers would have to read the entire ballot title out loud before signing—or the signature won’t count. (SB210)
- 🛑 Drown Petition Efforts in Red Tape – Canvassers must now file extra affidavits before signatures can even be counted. (SB211)
- 🛑 Create a New ‘Election Police’ Force – A new division under the Secretary of State could investigate, subpoena, and declare petitions invalid with little oversight. (SB212)
These bills are not about integrity. They are about shutting you out of the democratic process.
